In addition, there are also many patients whose pain complaint is in the feet or hands or other parts of the body but obtained relief after their neck or back had been treated.

Marty , a 70 year old male consulted for pain on both hands. Doctors have told him that he had “carpal tunnel syndrome” and needs an operation on both wrist to help relieve his hand pain.
In our 30 years experience in pain management, we know that when there is pain on both hands, the neck should be suspected as the cause. We ordered an MRI of the neck on this patient and it showed multiple levels of severe spinal stenosis on the neck. Even though he complained of very little neck pain, it was the multiple levels of spinal stenosis that we suspected as the cause of pain on both hands.
Cervical epidural steroid injection was done on this patient and he obtained 95% relief from the pain on both hands. This patient is a good example of pain in a different part of the body (both hands) but the cause is in the neck even though he has very little neck pain.
