New minimally invasive operation for chronic back pain.  On today’s  “Doctors TV Show on CBS”, Dr. Ian Armstrong, a neurosurgeon described a revolutionary operation for chronic back pain.  It is called “Lateral Interbody Infusion Surgery  – XLIF”.  The approach is on the side instead of the back of the body.  The recovery is short compared to the traditional back approach.   Dr. Armstrong stated that surgery should only be resorted to when all other treatments have failed.
